Ceremonies I photograph
I photograph the ceremonies that mark new beginnings and bring families together in faith. I've covered housewarmings, Satyanarayan poojas, Sunderkand, Ganesh poojas and a Bhagwat Katha here in Richmond, as well as Holi celebrations, so I know the rhythm of these events and where the important moments fall.
Griha pravesh and housewarming
The first steps into the new home, the kalash, the boiling of milk, the havan and the family together in the house for the first time.
Satyanarayan pooja and Ganesh pooja
The pooja setup, the sankalp, the katha reading, the aarti and the sharing of prasad.
Sunderkand and kathas
The recitation, the devotional singing and the gathering listening together, often over several hours.
Holi and Diwali gatherings
Colors, rangoli, diyas, traditional outfits and the whole community in one place.
The moments that matter
At a pooja, the most meaningful photos are often the quietest ones. I pay close attention to:
- The priest and the family - the pandit guiding the rituals and the hosts performing them, hands joined for the sankalp or offering flowers
- Aarti - the glow of the lamp on faces as everyone sings together, one of the most beautiful moments of the day
- Elders' blessings - grandparents placing a hand on a head, children touching their feet
- Rangoli, decor and the pooja setup - the details the family spent hours preparing
- Prasad and the meal - serving, sharing and the conversations that follow
- The full gathering - a group photo of everyone who came, before guests begin to leave
I keep a respectful distance during the rituals, follow the customs of your home and stay out of the priest's way. If there are moments that shouldn't be photographed, or customs specific to your family or region, tell me beforehand and I'll follow them.
Homes, halls and venues around Richmond
Most of these ceremonies happen at home, and I'm comfortable working in living rooms, pooja rooms and backyards in Glen Allen, Short Pump and across Richmond. I also cover events in community halls and other venues; if your pooja is at a temple, check its photography rules first. Light around the pooja area is often warm and dim, so I look for window light and plan angles that keep the deity, the priest and the family together in the frame.
A few things help the photos:
- Set up the pooja area where people can gather on more than one side
- Share the muhurat and the order of rituals in advance
- Plan a moment for the family group photo, ideally after aarti and before the meal
- Let me know when the havan begins, since smoke and fire need careful positioning
For a griha pravesh, I can also photograph the outside of your new home.
Coverage, reel and delivery
Pooja and housewarming coverage is priced as Event Photography, so it includes one high-quality Instagram reel alongside the full photo gallery. The reel is an easy way to share the day with family far away who couldn't be there.
You receive your photos, every one edited by hand, in a private online gallery within 7 days. The number of photos depends on the length of the ceremony and the size of the gathering, and larger events can include up to 400-600 photos.
Longer events such as a full-day katha or a celebration spread over several days can be covered with a custom package. To book, message me on WhatsApp or use the contact form with the date, the ceremony, your area and the muhurat if you have it.
